ECM Season of Advocacy Week 2

This April-June, Episcopal City Mission is hosting their second annual Season of Advocacy over the 7 weeks from April 23-June 8 (Between Easter and Pentecost)! MA is at the beginning of the 2-year Legislative Session and this advocacy will focus on getting co-sponsors for some top bills of interest.

This week, ECM is advocating for the Corporate Fair Share Act, which is an act to combat offshore tax avoidance by large corporations. Parishioners are asked to reach out to their representatives by phone (or email) to ask for their support. To learn more about this bill, please visit ECM's website here.

Sample Phone Call Script (we encourage you to use your own words and stories as much as you can):

Hi, I have a message for [elected official's name].

I am a constituent. My name is [your full name] and I live at [your home address].

I'm asking you to co-sponsor and strongly support "An Act Combatting Offshore Tax Avoidance.” The bill numbers are  S.2033/H.3110. I am part of Episcopal City Mission and working with them to support this “Corporate Fair Share” approach to taxation at the state level because giant, multinational corporations are not contributing their part to state taxes. As we see more and more cuts coming down from the federal government, we need this revenue to protect the safety nets that are important to us. This is one very practical way we can protect people in Massachusetts from cuts to programs they depend on to survive.

(If speaking to a person and not a machine): Can we count on [elected official's name] for (his/her/their) support? What is (his/her/their) current position on S.2033/H.3110?

Thank you!

For those of you who are represented by Senator Patrick O'Connor (First Plymouth & Norfolk District), he is already a co-sponsor so please right a thank him! If you are not sure who your legislators are, use this link to find out now!
