Fr. Ed teaches Sunday School in Lower Weld.
Dear St. John’s parents,
We had a wonderful visit with Fr. Ed last Sunday who spoke with our class about the meaning of the Eucharist. He used our Godly Play materials to teach us about the Last Supper and how we are to come together in community to remember Him each time we participate in the Eucharist. As one child was looking at all the disciples and Jesus gathered around the table, he asked “which one is Jesus?” Fr. Ed explained that the figurines are designed so that Jesus is indistinguishable from his disciples. The intent is for us to recognize Jesus in any other person and, likewise, for anyone to recognize Jesus in us. This is such an important message in the world today. Stay tuned for another class led by Fr. Ed in the fall on the sacrament of Baptism!
This week is Rogation Sunday! This day is celebrated on the sixth Sunday of the Easter season in the Anglican tradition. It is an ancient church festival that began as a way for farmers to give thanks for their crops. A common feature of the celebration is to walk together around the church grounds and pray for the well-being of the parish in the coming year.
We will be gathering for Sunday School in Lower Weld for a lesson on Creation. After we come into the church, we will be processing outside together as a congregation to our spruced-up labyrinth. We will have the Eucharist and the remainder of the service there.
Coming Up:
June 1: Youth Sunday and All-Ages Worship. We will be recognizing our amazing teachers, high school graduates, and confirmands. We need readers! Please let me know if your child is interested in doing a reading!
June 8: Summerfest and Pentecost. Please join us for an outside service at 4 p.m. to celebrate the end of the program year. There will be lots of food and special crafts and activities for the kids for Pentecost!
June 15: Summer Sunday School begins. We will be starting our series on Creation—stay tuned for more info.
Warm regards,
Alexis
